Possible job offer...help pls.

Been contacted about a job. Currently receiving JSA due to redundancy from last job about 3 months ago. The job Ive been headhunted for potentially wont start until April. Whilst its a substantially lower salary than Im used to (about £20k a year lower) am really keen to accept on basis that its a least a job (albeit a temporary one). Am unsure if I can accept on basis that I would still be claiming JSA until it started...or would my JSA payments stop as soon as I signed contract despite the job not starting until April? Any knowledge on the subject would be appreciated. Obviously I shall speak to Job Centre about it when Im next in but meantime any thoughts would be of benefit. Thanks.

Until you walk in on your first day, the promised job might not materialise. In past recessions I've even seen people who left one job, turned up to start a new one to be told in the first one minute that the job no longer existed, they then went to the Jobcentre and were told that as they had given up their first job they weren't entitled to get dole money....

So, the best advice is to keep claiming JSA and to keep applying for jobs, until your job starts .... it doesn't exist until you have your bum on that seat on the first day.

    Good luck and well done.
  • Accept the job, you can still sign on as you are still unemployed you must though still seek work while signing, either temp work to cover you till April or another alternative to the one you have accepted.
