shares and redundancy

Hi everyone,
A relative of mine was made redundant about 10 months ago. I have only recently found out that so far he has recieved no benefits of anykind. The reasons he was given (to the best of my knowledge) is because he has some shares in either his last company or a previous one nd hedeclared these when he went to fill out all the forms at the social.
i have been told that his redundancy package would not stop him gaining jsa, due to his previous job was a well paying one can someone confirm this and does any one know if having shares would stop any benefits? his mortage protection will be running out soon and i know he is stressing, but also he believe what people on the other sides of these desks tell him.
Even though he is applying for hundreds of jobs a month he seem to be gettign stuck in the terrible system of joblessness.
Thans for any advise
brumuk
