Who is responsible for notifying old company when I transfer?
Hello
I had a letter from Ovo telling me that they would start supplying me with dual fuel as from 31/12/09. When I phoned them to give them the meter readings, I was told that I wouldn't need to tell my old suppliers as Ovo would do that.
I had a letter from the old gas supplier asking me to call them to ensure a smooth changeover, but I ignored the letter because of what Ovo told me. I was never contacted by the old electricity supplier.
My bank statement shows that I am paying by direct debit to all three companies, and I am worrying about what to do.
Was Ovo's advice correct and can I recover my payments from my old suppliers?
Many thanks.

Ovo's advice was correct.
Any money you have overpaid to your old company will be refunded. However you need to see a final bill from your old company to find out the exact position on your account.
Ensure that the final meter reading is the same as the start reading with Ovo0 -
I'm much obliged to you, Cardew, and very much admire the sterling advice you give to others on this site.
Should I put the ball entirely in Ovo's hands (I wonder how competent they are), or also contact the old companies?0 -
Make sure you get a final bill and keep it just in case. Sometimes energy companies can come back chasing for money0
