Morning

I just switched my beloved PC on and it went bang and I smelt a little bit of burning. After thinking it was the fuse that has gone on either the PC plug itself or the 8-way plug adapter - but it somehow switched off all the power upstairs when it happened. So flicked switch downstairs and everything comes on, apart from my PC. Try switching kettle lead - no luck and tried plugging it directly into the plug hole and in the adapter - no luck and everything else on the adpater is working!!

I have just got up and this was not what I needed and it has put me in a crap mood. I have spent alot of money on that PC and I am praying the whole thing hasn't gone ka-put.

Where should I start from here? Try putting different PSU in? I don't know what I would try after that?

Thanks for any help it's good to know I can come here and get some support when something like this happens:(

More than likely it is your PSU,

Check the motherboard to see there are any burnt components or blown tracks,

If all seems fine i would try a new PSU

Also look at the capacitors on your motherboard.

If the bang was loud enough I'd say its a cap inside the PSU that went bang.

Thanks guys I will go and have a good look now and will put in a diff PSU - only 1 thing that puzzles me....I have an Antec True Power PSU it cost £60 - surley it should not do things like this! And all I did was flick the switch on the back of the PC - how can just turning the power on make it go bang?

I haven't looked at it yet as im scared it isnt the PSU and then I am in real trouble....

Thanks for help! - please keep it coming:)

Just tried diff PSU and its working:) - thank god! Now need to try and get my Antec replaced. I dont understand how this happened though? It was going through a surge protected supply and I thought Antecs were very good?

I think that someone posted yesterday with a similar problem with an Antec PSU - probably a bad batch of components!

Even though the Antec is at fault it may have saved other compnonets in your computer. Just be glad you didnt have a cheapy generic PSU as they tend to surge the output rails thus saying goodbye to most fried components.

Get a refund and get a Tagan!

Very, very good point there - just glad I am now back on it and it's all good! (touch wood).

Won't be able to get a refund now as I bought it a year and a half ago lol but they should replace it for a brand spanking new one - and up until now the unit was great.

    Cheers for all your help!!!
