Caroline73 - not sure where you are, what you say used to be the case where I am but changed a little while ago, here generally siblings have first priority only if living in catchment. That is, if the older child gained their place through living in the catchment area, then the family moved out of catchment, where I am this would then mean that sibling priority moves down the list to after looked after children, siblings in catchment and children in catchment iyswim.

Something to consider when moving out of catchment.

It's the same here (the way you described Jo). It goes Looked After children first, then statemented children, then catchment with siblings, catchment no siblings, out of catchment with siblings, then out of catchment no siblings. But DD/DS's school is so oversubsribed I don't think they get past catchment. I know someone with three children at the school, who then moved out of catchment, and was refused a place for her fourth child (but she was allowed to go there following appeal).

I heard of a school recently in a neighbouring LEA where they made a child leave the school in about year 2 because she was out of catchment and they were oversubscribed. Regardless of the fact that she'd been there since nursery. Some schools also make you re-apply when moving from infants to juniors (one of my friends is going through this at the moment). It's best to check with the individual school so as not to be caught out.

And it looks like we made it once again

Once you are in that is it ! If the school is a Primary (5-11) that is . If the school has an Infant School and a Junior School , they may be run as stand alone schools and then you may have a problem.
