Insurance afer break in. Student house.

Hi. My daughther, who is sharing a house with two others returned to the house on New Years Day only to find it had been broken into and trashed. Unfortunately, we didn't arrange contents insurance and she lost quite a bit of stuff. I know it's a case of shutting the door after the house has bolted but would like some advice as to whether we'd even be able to obtain insurance now? I'm not sure if the two other girls will be interested in also joining with the cover and if so, all well and good. If not, can my daughter just cover her room?

Any advice gratefully received.

PS: 10 out of 10 to the Met police. They were brilliant with my daughter and actually drove her half way home so that I could meet her and bring her back as she was so shaken up.

Check your own home insurance, you may find her possessions are covered under that policy.

If she wants her own policy try one of the specialists, search student contents insurance on google. I know endsleigh speciailise in policies for students.

Yes, my thoughts too. if you have "cover away from home" on your contents policy then this should cover your daughter's stuff.

In a student house, if you want separate insurance then your daughter should arrange to cover her own stuff only.

But it should be much cheaper to add it to your contents policy if you do not already have it.

It's good to have anyway......covers your stuff you take on holiday.
  • Try endsleigh insurance. I know they offer several different types of policy for students in accomadation. I'm sure they are very reasonably priced too :money:

They do do single rooms aswell!

Have a look at Saxon Insurance, I found them to be better priced than Endsleigh when I was a student.
