Why do experian and equifax report different things!?

I took out an abbey credit card in October last year. I set up the direct debit and transferred my balance. I then got a notice to say i'd missed my first payment. I rang up fuming because I had set up a direct debit. Abbey apologised and refunded my late payment. Since then no probs.

Except they promised me nothing would be marked on my credit report. Yet I checked my Equifax yesterday and it has an 'AP' (arrangement to pay) for November. This will really damage my chances at getting a mortgage and is completely wrong. So I rang Abbey back today. They said a note was put through in November to amend my credit report and so basically it isn't their issue. So i've emailed Equifax and i'm awaiting a reply. But now i've checked my Experian credit report and November on that report shows up Satisfactory!

Is it normal for a bank to only amend one company's credit report?

How can I get the AP removed from Equifax? Seems madness that Experian shows up fine and Equifax says something completely different. Could it be that Equifax are much slower at updating their records? Or is it more likely Abbey have only informed Experian?

Any advice on what to do next?

It means that different credit providers report to different CRA's.

There's a list of card providers here http://www.stoozing.com/cards.htm that has a note on which CRA they report to. Even where they report to more than one, you should treat them as different "complaints" and ensure they rectify each one individually.

Recently had an issue with an old Amex card being resurrected on my Experian report (known problem over new year with old Amex card, mine was one of a a batch that were resurrected through technical problem).

Problem was rectified with Experian within 48 hours of reporting, Equifax has to be checked separately.

CallCredit don't count if you ask me :)

They are private companies and just like ASDA or Tesco they do things differently.

What they do do the same though is scam private individuals into thinking they need or might profit from their expensive services.
