Visa Card rules w.r.t. post holiday rental additional payment dispute

Hi there,
I am looking for some advice on a current dispute with a holiday let that has said they will be charging an additional amount to my Visa card as they claim excessive cleaning costs were incurred following our stay.

Does anyone know if they are allowed to take this payment without my permission. I do not think they pre-authorised a payment on my card from which they are now taking this payment as they have already charged me the holiday let amount which did not include a deposit amount.

The additional costs are still in dispute with their complaints department but they have said they are taking an amount from my card and have upped the amount since they first let me know they would take the payment by saying it wil now be the amount + VAT, where as previously they noticed me it was just the amount (not VAT mentioned).

Any advice on this is appreciated.

Thanks.
