Being Single - Why are we getting such a rough deal !

I am trying to arrange a holiday in this country; what I want to know is why is being single such a problem i.e. why isn't a single room half the price of a double / twin - it was designed for 1 person and you can't get any more than 1 person in  !

Most of the time single rooms are the size of a shoebox and are in the worst location within the building; it has no views whatsoever (unless you count the kitchen, fire escape etc), are nearest to a main road, furthest from the lift etc

I can understand why I would need to pay a supplement if I was in a room designed for 2 or more, however, even then the relationship between the original cost and the single person price is absurd. The most that I should be expected to pay for a double room would be the normal rate less the cost of 1 breakfast !

Some examples
Thistle Hotel Birmingham - single room £150 double dual occupancy £160
Ramada Hotel Birmingham - single room £120 double dual occupancy £120

Paragon Hotel Birmingham - single room £65 double dual occupancy £80
Special Offer
Paragon Hotel Birmingham - single room £40 double dual occupancy £45 !

Please don't even get me started on single supplements for package holidays  !

We keep being told that there are more single people in this country than ever before, yet we continue to be treated in such an unfair manner.

Does anyone know any hotels / b&bs / web sites  etc that take a fairer view / are single friendly ?

Does anyone know of any campaigns trying to address the 'single' issue ?
