Are UK and US baby buggies the same?

We are trying to find a suitable new baby buggy for our just turned 2 year old who weighs approx 15kg (not overweight just >90th centile stuff).
In looking on various parenting websites we've noticed that US buggies are rated to something like 50lb which equates to over 20kg, whilst EU/UK ones only go up to 15kg.
UK companies, such as Maclaren, market buggies under the same names in the EU and the US but only admit to UK buggies being suitable to 15kg.
My question is - does anyone know if the UK and US buggies are manufactured to the same standards and just tested differently for the EU and US?

(In case I don't get a chance to do it personally, thanks to all who respond.)

To be honest Id say yes they are the same thing just tested differently. I emailed Britax regarding one of their car seats and then went on about European testing, so I think they are all just different sets of rules. Which is bizarre as kids are the same the world over!!
Bringing up 2 handsome boys and 1 gorgeous girl the MSE way!

  • If you go on the maclaren us website and compare buggys theres weights are far greater than ours.
But they are all manafactured in China, so tthey must all be the same.
Have you looked at other models which might have a higher weight?
  • I would go for the Maclaren XLR. I've got one and my four year old still has loads of room in it.
  • Thanks to all who've replied.

My replies from Maclaren also went on about EU testing rather than whether they were the same or not.

Perhaps when I posted this I was hoping for some insider info from a Maclaren mole .....

I think we'll probably go with a Baby Jogger, for various reasons, mainly size of buggy and child.
