House Clearance Gone Wrong

To the OP, thanks for the warning. Until I read your post, I had no idea of the prevalance of time-wasting house clearance companies. Like yourself, and having never used them, I assumed there was no cost involved on the part of the householder because the company collecting it would make money from selling the goods.

Though I remember the old thread (haven't gone through it in detail), I'm not sure anyone highlighted the risk of companies with poor practices like you encountered. Hopefully you can put this all behind you and prevent other people from this experience.
Thats ok I am glad that I have warned or helped someone at least. It does not help when you get certain other people on here being sarcy of a previous post I put up really, which I think to myself, why bother helping others when you get so little back. But glad you noted this anyway. I dont want you to go thru what I did.

I just replied but my message seems to have vanished anyway.

If you read my thing properly you would see that I am trying to warn others of my mistakes ok.

But with people like you around maybe I wont bother in future to try and warn or help others with my mistakes. As for you saying I had advice I ignored, by the time I got that advice it was simply to late.

If you have nothing nice to say, dont say anything at all, otherwise I shall remove my post trying to help others and not bother.

Ladywriter - you are aware that GDB2222 was one of those people providing you with very good constructice advice and defending you against all those people attacking you on the original post? Doubt they'll defend you again.

You could try solution X Y or Z.

OK I'll try solution J. Which went wrong. Don't try solution J people.

No you should have tried XY or Z.

Well at least Ladywriter's experience will help others in the same situation so we can thank her for that.

Well I found what they said was hurtful and I was trying to help others, but if this is what it will cause then I certainly wont bother any further.

Its the last time I give out any help to others now.

Thank you for your message, you are kind unlike others here. but I am not putting up anymore helpful comments since people are being nasty to me really.

I hope I have helped those on here who appreciated it anyway.

But come tomorrow I shall now remove the ad and not bother anymore.

But thank you for defending me anyway.

If all those people were attacking me, then I doubt there is not much point me bothering to help anyone on here to tell them my bad experience, I was just trying to help people really. I think that ones bad experience can help others not to make my mistakes.

But you know what, forget it. I can do without all this crap! I will be removing all posts tomorrow. And doubt I will bother anymore more.

Just out of interest and not being rude, why did you chose to go against all the advice you were given?

I run a property clearance and removals company contracting to the LA amongst others and I feel the need to defend legitimate house clearance companies here. Yes there are dodgy ones about but we're not all like that.

Your first call should have been to the local furniture charities, after that maybe a clearance advert in your local paper/newsagents window. Next make the most of your dustmen, a few bags extra with a fiver tip maybe. Finally, after you've got rid of probably over 50% of the contents then ring two or three local clearance companies. Choose the one that sounds human and polite, not the cheapest! You check their 3 year waste licence is valid and ask for an exact price either to you or to them. And because of the large overheads a properly run business like this has then expect to pay them, unless of course your property is full of antiques.
