The financial year runs from April to April each year. We are currently in FY 09/10 and on April 1st we move upto FY 10/11. For your awards after 1st April 2010, it all depends on what your income between April 2009-April 2010 states.

Forget about proper year ends, in the financial world the year ends on the 31st of March.

You can give them an estimate as to what you thing your P60's will state at the end of March's pay. This figure is then used for your new award for the next year.

If you give them an estimate that is too low and that does not match what your P60 states, then you will be overpaid, so it is vital that you estimate correctly.

Still, im not sure the purpose of this thread as there are no facts and figures to go on, simply a moan that you wont get as much as you expected.

I get the feeling you gave them an estimated figure for 2010 earnings up until April, only including 3mths (Jan/Feb/Mar) :rotfl:

What about April 09 to Dec 09? Sorry, but it is entirely your fault for not using what's planted between your ears. No wonder you received a high figure having only quoted 3mths salary.

hi and thanx for the replys

what i wrote was a bit confusing !!!!!

when i requested the est 2 weeks ago, the lady asked what my and hubbys income would go down too so she gave me the est on that.
when filling in the forms on the phone the est was given on the tax years of 2009/2010 because of the changes.

could i ask why it goes on what we earned rather than what we are earning as there is a very big diffrence.

    thanx again

It goes on what you are earning this tax year (6th April 2008 to 5th April 2009), so that is what you are earning now. If they did it on a month to month basis, 6 million people would have to phone each and every month to give new income details. It's hard enough to get them to phone once a year to confirm details are all correct and give their yearly income.

    sorry
    2008/2009= joint income=£46000
    2009/2010= joint income=£20500
from april 2010 (looking at the present situation) =single income=£17382

    hope this helps

  • From April 6th you could give them an estimated income for 10-11 but make sure you overestimate otherwise you will get an overpayment.
