Automatic billing payment question

I set up the automatic monthly payment via paypal to pay my ebay fees, but I was just wondering, do they take whatever you have in the balance of Paypal and then the remainder by debiting your bank account, or is it always the full amount from your bank?
I'm asking as I had fees to pay, so thought I may aswell leave my balance in Paypal to pay the majority of it and then the small amount left over would be taken from my bank (which was literally all I had) I had an email to tell me my bank had reversed the transaction due to insufficient funds as they had taken the whole amount and not just the part payment as I thought they would. My bank have now charged me £30 for it, which I honestly do not have spare!
Was it me that got it wrong in thinking they'd do the part payment with my PP balance/bank account?

Mine has always gone from the paypal balance first and only then from the bank. Are you sure you had cleared funds in your paypal account at the exact time they requested payment?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Thanks for replying soolin, yep, definitely cleared funds, it had been in there for a few weeks, it was money I'd had from selling earlier in the month, and had been using to purchase a few bits and bobs with before xmas.
Once I got back online to see the message about it being reversed I paid it again but manually, of course this time it did take the balance and then a part payment from my bank
I'm so annoyed! to think I'd left it in paypal saving having to transfer it across to my bank, when it would go back out to paypal again anyway for the fees, I thought I was being really organised! to add insult to injury it was on xmas day, my birthday! It's wiped any profit I made, and I literally only have that money to live on after bills are paid
Do you think it's worth writing to Paypal? actually scrap that, I think I already know the answer!!0 -
Hi, I use the automatic pay thingy and had the same thing happen.
I listed stuff on the last free listing day and by the time it all sold I had jst over £10 of fee's to pay which came off last week. I had £15 in my paypal account, which I had left sitting there specifically to pay my fees, but it came out of my bank account so I'm guessing thats just the way they do it..•¨¨*:•..•¨¨*:•..•¨¨*:• Scottish & proud of it! .•¨¨*:•..•¨¨*:•..•¨¨*:•0 -
Whenever i sell on ebay before i withdraw the money from Paypal, i always pay the fees using the one-time payment option.
Therefore whatever i withdraw covers the postage etc and i don't get lumbered with a Paypal bill from my bank account.
I think a lot depends on when you make the payment, perhaps the bank payment is taken before you notice and have made the one-time payment. I've never had a problem.0
