play.com packaging/warehouse - not so good nowadays

just had a dvd boxset come through the post from play.com, one of the ones where the dvd's are on plastic trays, on a hinge system
opened it up to find the hinge completely broken, & 1 of the discs lose inside (not on its tray)
ive had previous box sets of the same design come through the post fine, & with there being no damage shown on the padded envelope, or on the outside of the box, i reckon the damage has happened before its gone in the post.
i was planning to order an external hard-drive from them, but now concerned that they arnt handling their products as well as they used to.

anyone else been having recent problems with their handling/packaging?

Yes. Double yes. Triple yes.
since Summer 2008: I've been sent the wrong poster 4 times now, I've tried everything, speaking to them, explaining there could be a discrepancy between the item number on the computer & in the warehouse, included all the correct documentation each time, written a kind big notice asking for the correct item. All for a simple poster, but one that my housemate would find funny, but we are over half-way through tenancy now, I'm wondering if it's worth it.
Nov 2009: I ordered a black polo shirt size L to be sent to me (in Surrey), received a sky blue Watchmen t-shirt size medium, the address inside meant for someone in Birmingham. I have returned the item and the original item I paid for is now out of stock.
August 2009: I ordered a Philips all-in-1 remote control, which has stopped working. Looked it up on google, it's a common fault. I have rung twice, the Play.com [STRIKE]muppets[/STRIKE] phone operators tell me to contact Philips direct. Er no, the contract is with Play.com not Philips (SOGA and all that), then they pretend they don't understand English any more and say 'contact Philips thankyou bye'. Twice that's happened.
I've ordered over 180 things from Play.com over the last 5 years, and 3 out of 4 of the most recent orders have been messed up.
So now, it is my opinion that Play.com = fools and I will stick to Amazon from now on.0 -
Play customer service is now dreadful - it is really difficult to send broken/wrong stuff back. I prefer Amazon these days too.0

Play have always sent goods inappropriately packed. I avoid anything of value from them as a jiffy bag is not usually good protection for a £100 dvd box set.
Saying that though if you order a T Shirt it's possible it will arrive in a sturdy cardboard box
As for Customer Service sadly I agree trumpton & eek, they used to be one of the best. I've had over 500 orders from them since 1999 but in the last year or so they've got steadily less and now it's only items that are really reduced in price that Amazon etc. don't come near.0
