Free mobile calls for benefit claimants

the only time you can call an 0800 is when you make an initial claim and for claiming crisis loans. All other calls to the various DWP agencies and HMRC are 0845 numbers which aren't free for anyone so lets not be too quick to applaud the phone companies (who are making millions) or the DWP.

Does this work on all networks though? A friend of mine was trying to convince me that 0800 numbers are free from mobiles - when I got my last pAYG phone, it said that it costs 25p per minute. I had fun trying to convince her I was right.:rolleyes:

Im not sure to be honest sorry, as ive always only had o2 as my network.
For most numbers i just use the sayno website as it has the landline number for basically every 0845 number.

Why is it that all the calls I have to make are to 0845, rather than 0800?

And not all the numbers are on Saynoto0870, unfortunately.

i've just found the same, tried to look for an alternative number for my gp

If you did ring a lot you can get a plan from BT to get free 0845 calls during the daytime for £5 or so a month on your landline.

on BT option3 0845 and for that matter 0870 attract no additional charges
