how much better is a duo processor compared to a solo one

i've been looking on the dell site at laptops, and was wondering, how much better is a duo processor compared to a solo one

as a Intel® Core™ Solo Processor T1350 (1.86 GHz) is cheaper than a Intel® Core™ Duo Processor T2050 (1.66 GHz)

even thought it has more ghz

It depends. If the software you use the most is coded to be multi-threaded a Duo will be approx. 1.5 times better. Also if you do a lot of video conversions or CD ripping, then a Duo will let you keep using the PC on other tasks. If you just surf the web, a Duo won't help a lot.

you defiantly dont get a pc running twice as fast. infact 1.5 times is maybe over the top slightly.

The problem is that not alot of programs suport multi threading which is when the program is able to make use of dual processor and dual core procesors thes programs are usually highend graphics and video rendering. most home pc's dont need dual core

if you dont use any multi threding applications then spending the extra is a waste and you should be able to get a faster single core for the same money.
