tax credits

I was medically discharged from work, I was paid £ 4.000 which did not show on my p60 but I did pay tax on it. I can't find anywhere on their site that I had to declare this one off payment, I did'nt save it so have no income from it. There is no point asking the tax credit people as they tell you something different every time you call. This was 2 years ago and I did check their web site and no where was this sort of payment mentioned now I;m worried that they will have over paid me but we have always been on a low income under £ 13,000 so has anyone got an answer ?
