refund with 'restocking' 25% deduction

I've returned some freezer hinges to the co I bought them from and they will give me a refund (within 30 days) but are deducting a restocking charge of 25%. I've checked out their terms and conditions and their original refund policy was a refund in full, but they have included an amendment which says they will charge this 25% now. Is it legal?

Did you make original the purchase online/phone, or in a store?
Were the goods new?0 -
If it was bought online/over the phone, they can't do this. If you bought it from a store, in person, then they can.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -

Not quite true, it depends if it was within 7 working days from the day after the delivery that the OP contacted the company to do a return. If it was after that time it will come down to goodwill/the returns procedure for that company.0 -

Unless the items weren't returned in their original selling condition. If the package was opened for example, they can charge a fee.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Hi - yes goods were bought over the Internet and returned in original packaging within the 7 day period.0

If you purchased them online via a website and returned them in 7 working days then you are quite within your right to expect a full refund...as long as you sent them back in the condition you got themAlways ask ACAS0

and they were not made specifically for you.
Plus I believe you have to tell the company you are returning under the DSR.0 -

Thats the crutial bit, if you did not put in writing you cancelled under the DSR they will presume you are returning under there 30 day returns.0 -
Also the posts about returning in unopened condition are incorrect, you can return as long as the goods themselves are resealable and you have taken "reasonable care" of them. this could include sending back without the packaging.Back by no demand whatsoever.0
