Damp appearing on interior walls of house

Hi all. We have a problem with damp appearing on some of the walls in our house which seems to have become more widespread during the recent cold snap. These patches are all restricted to interior walls which back on to exterior walls which are usually very cold. Does anyone know what can be done to fix this and what sort of tradesperson would be needed? Cavity wall insulation isn't an option as it's an old terreaced with solid brick walls. We really want to sort this out as we're refurbishing some of the house and are now seeing ugly, great patches of damp appearing on newly, plastered and painted walls. Thanks!

I am not a tradesperson,I just live in a big old house so I know a bit about what can go wrong with a house.
Sounds like the brickwork needs re-pointed.
You can also look into insulating these walls on the inside by basically getting some insulation backed plasterboard.
Maybe worth getting a damp monitor to check your new plaster."Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0 -
Hi Portabello,
You say that the walls were newly plastered and that these are solid walls. Did you re-plaster these walls because they were damp and if so did you take the old plaster completely off or skim over the top of the existing plaster?
How long have you lived in the property and how long ago did you re-plaster the walls? Did you take the skirting off when you re-plastered the walls?
Is the outside rendered / painted ? Has the outside been re-pointed ?
Are the floors to the rooms solid or suspended timber ?
Is there any mould present ?
