Old Floor Tiles Removed, BUT....

The bathroom floor is STIOLL coverd with swirly tile adhesive.
I've scraped some, but it's pretty rough.
Do you thin self levelling compound poured over would be ok?
Then vinyl as a new surface.
& had thought of putting fibreboard first, then vinyl, to help level it with the new to be fitted laminate in the hallway.
Am I being stupid, or maybe a bit too clever?!
