Look on the gear shifter, on the handlebar. Where the cable enters the shifter, will be a knurled ring. Wind it out to get more tension on the cable, in to get less tension.0

As above.
If that doesn't work it may be bent, the only jockey wheel that needs to be perfectly inline with the cassette above is the highest one. The lowest one can be out by a fair bit to allow the chain to move between gears under tension.
If the higher jockey wheel isn't inline and the above by ppplasers doesn't work then I'd reccomend changing the mech. Really easyand on a hardrock I'd say a Shimano SLX rear mech would be a decent upgrade at around £25. Replacing like for like would probably only cost £15.0 -
thanks for advice it was bent so i used pliars to slightly shift it and seems to be ok for now. on the subject am looking for new brakes dont know whether its better to get pads or new brakes altogether.0

Or that! :rotfl:
Depends what you'll use the bike for and what It's equipped with already?
If you want to use the bike for serious off road stuff, the benifits of disk brakes are huge; Far more powerfull and less prone to getting wet and useless because of where they're placed. This will depend on if the bike has fittings for discs and calipers on the fork and hub?
If you're not too bothered about the extra power or don't have the fittings then a decent set of pads will work really well. Shimano make some xtr v brake pads that are fairly cheap and I've been told there's no better available. The downsides of rim brakes are the inability to work well in wet and icy conditions because they're situated so close to the tyre.
The pads are available here

Not cheap for v brake pads where cheapo ones can cost £3 but for a low cost, very good upgrade if you already have v brakes fitted they're very good.0
