Heat Recovery Ventilation

I'm about to start a new build and intend installing this whole house type of ventilation. So far i've approached two well advertised companies Villavent and Regavent for a quote which i'm still waiting for.
Do any forum members have such a device installed from either of these companies or another manufacturer and have an opinion on/of them good or bad?

There are lots of manufacturers producing MVHR (Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery). You will get more impartial advice from specialist installers such as ADM (Skipton) or Wholehouse Solutions (Luton).
Order of priority for your development:
1. Maximise insulation.
2. Maximise airtightness.
3. Correct ventilation strategy (MVHR)
4. Renewables - don't spend money on these unless you have done steps 1 to 3.
I suggest you select a product which operates automatically - some require user intervention. Ask the manufacturer/supplier for sound data and ensure some degree of acoustic duct is used local to the unit.
For independent performance test data, visit the SAP Appendix Q website but remember there is more to MVHR than the two criteria reflected in these tests (Specific fan power and thermal efficiency). Correct design and installation of the ductwork is essential. Units vary enormously in size for any given performance.
Consider UK manufactured units from Vent-Axia, Greenwood or Xpelair because they have travelled less and are likely to be a closer match to UK Building Regulations in respect of controls and performance (Building Regulations Part F and L).

Many thanks for the reply Mitch, and i'll certainly be looking at the manufacturers you mentioned.0

Hi hebridean,
try looking at the following
www.nuaire.co.uk or www.sunwarm.com (part of nuaire)
and
www.envirovent.com
both do a range of systems, nuaire are the bigger company on HRV and do an awful lot of it.
To confirm I work for neither, just fit some of their range of products
Good Luck
DDThe advice I give on here is based on my many years in the preservation industry. I choose to remain anonymous, I have no desire to get work from anyone. No one can give 100% accurate advice on a forum if I get it wrong you'll get a sincere apology and that's all:D
