She needs to conatct her local authority regarding any housing benefit/council tax benefit.rogermunns wrote: »I understand she has no savings and only support is from son (single, 34, lives with her), who only just scrapes by anyway and is laden with CC debt. He is self-employed.
If it appears thatshe might be entitled to something, how does she go about getting it?
Sorry to ask such basic questions, but I never had to look into anything like this while in UK.
She also needs to contact jobcentre plus for any other benefits.
Lots of forms will need to be filled in along with evidence that will need to be provided.*SIGH*

I have to ask: if she is in such dire straits why on earth doesn't she get a job?Be happy, it's the greatest wealth

I was wondering that myself, although if she has not worked since she was 20, it will be difficult for her to get one and she has probably got used to money just 'appearing' in her bank account and assumes that this will carry on somehow.
Nevertheless, I really think her best option is to sign on for JSA and look for a job until she can draw her Pension.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0
