I tend to use a few different places, but asdas never been one of them for a long while Im afirad. I just dont think its that cheap, no matter what people say. Im also not convinced of thier meat, but I am a fusspot about meat so...

SOme of thier own stuff ( although their smartprice biscuits I agree are excellent) isnt the best, particularly dairy.

I shop mainly in tescos, but mix with wilkos, farmfoods, morrissons and places like the 99p stores or local poundshops. Also I twigged on that your local independent spar/ cotcutter type places have some cracking bargains, and they ALWAYS have the "flashed packs" like try me frees, or 20% extra free that supermarkets dont tend to have as much of

I do have rather a lot of time on my hands to be foing this, i doubt Id be able to do it with kids ( although it never stoppped my mother :rotfl:)
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
  • The smartprice strawberries in Asda the other day were actually more expensive per pound than the ordinary ones!

I only shop at Asda for my once a month 'main' items, the rest of the time I used Lidls....:T
Honestly, what a saving to be made by going to lidls....
I have 1 around the corner from my house so I have been going to Lidls for years.....
Try going to lidls, savings are good!!!
I also recommend Lidl for value, the only problem I've found is they don't have any reduced fat or low sugar items. The yogurt I bought there was lush, and very cheap, but it turned out to be 10% fat!!!

  • go to the market - massive cucumber for example - 50p; all major supermarkets 70-90p
  • Sadly we don't have a market that does fruit and veg in our town. It does sell pants for plus size people though, and a vast array of towels.
My sig's too large, apparently - so apologies to whoever's space I was taking up.:lipsrseal

How do Asda prices compare with Lidl?

I'm another receipt scrutiniser ... put it all on a spreadsheet. I remember years ago walking round Sainsbury with an A4 file writing down prices because I was comparing with Tesco, and had 2 employees AND the store manager come to ask me what I was doing. Felt very unwelcome there.
The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.

I find the complete opposite, when we bought some steak from tescos it was so bland, it was like eating cardboard whereas asdas was lovely and tasty. Also the meat is often very bloated and if you check the hocks on the chickens loads are discoloured (sign of bad poultry keeping) the only meat I will buy from tesco is corned beef.

I find tescos fruit horrid as well, all too many times its well past its dates, and way overprice, £1.49 for a bag of apples that are £1.38 in asda

  • Been shopping at Aldi for years, since they first opened their store in our town. Have tried every other supermarket (mainly for a change of choice at times) but always go back to Aldi. Food is excellent quality cheaply priced and store is a lot smaller can get round for weekly shop in about 20 minutes as opposed to hour and half in massive Tesco extra! Aldi fruit and veg is always fresh and good value, cooked meats are delicious and cleaning stuff is great. They have really improved their range in the last couple of years. Wouldn't go anywhere else now.
