Mmmmm shopping at Asda

I'm a bit cheesed off. I shopped in Asda today thinking it would be cheaper than my usual Tesco's. Stuck to a list I'd made before going, all the usual things we have, but got SmartPrice on some of them, definitely did not go 'ooo I'll have one of those, they don't do them in Tesco' etc etc, and managed to spend 4 quid more this week in Asda than last week in Tesco!

I'm going back to Tesco for next week's shop to see how much I can save!

I think Tescos is extortionate compaired to Asda. We had to go the other day because we were a bit skint and I had a load of vouchers. I went round the whole shop putting things in the trolly saying "thats 12p dearer" "thats 23p dearer"

I didnt half get some funny looks :rotfl: and a shop assistant was laughing his socks off at me when I was going on about how they were charging 61p more for some biscuits than they do in asda

Yes I am one of those saddos that remembers the prices of EVERYTHING :rotfl:

i'd suggest taking out your receipts (if you have any tesco ones in the house) and comparing prices individually, there may have been some bits you needed this week that you didn't last week??

i too find asda cheaper and was so pleased they opened one next door to my gym...before that the only supermarket in walking distance was sainsbury's, no idea how i managed to afford that!!

I went to both today!

A fire yesterday at the Slough branch meant all their electrics are out except a few lights and tills. So no frozen/fresh/chilled!

Adsa was definately cheaper! I too went round - that's 12p cheaper etc!

Will be going back.

The thing that I find about ASDA is that their smartprice stuff is actually rather good rather than disgusting. At Morrisons (already a nice step down from our old regular - Sainsburys - when I was an employee) we used to buy own brand bread but not the cheapest because we found it to be rather unappetising and hard. Now, shopping at ASDA we happily buy smartprice practically everything and the bread is delicious.

So whilst ASDA's Smartprice brand may only be marginally cheaper than Morissons' basic, we wouldn't have gone for the Basic range before. I love the prices in ASDA, unfortunately we still spend a little over budget there, but mainly because I've been too ill to meal plan.

I'm not a fan of Tesco's, mainly due to a bad incident with mouldy strawberries (I realise it could happen to any shop, but the emotions attached to it are just too strong).

I too find Asda far cheaper than Tesco,but,I spend more in Asda because they have soooooo many bargains you can't afford not to get them! I don't spend much in Tesco because I too am one who remembers every price and I say out loud "i refuse to pay that,it's x amount cheaper in Asda" hubby walks on ahead with head held in shame and I find people putting things back on the shelf,one shop assistant said to me once,"well why don't you shop in Asda then?" so I gave my half full trolley to her and said ok I will,and off I went.I only shop in Tesco now if I daydream and miss the turning for Asda,Tesco is the next shop along so I end up there.

i think you hit the nail on the head with that one Asda definatly have more variety than Tesco we had a tesco open up down the road in october so to avoid teh rush hour traffic jams i started to shop there however my food bill has very slowly crept up from 40-45 to 65-80! teh other day i bought basic essentials and spent more than 10! over my normal budget! their budget foods are much dearer tahn asda and dont taste that much better, eg tin of smart price meat balls at Asda are 18p for a small tin, Tesco only sell it in a large tin, it has crept up from 25p to 48p hwo does that work then!!!!!

I went back to shopping at Tesco last month as I noticed our Asda store and their online shop no longer had any Buy One Get One Free offers.
I wrote to Asda to ask why and they confirmed it was now their policy not to sell products on BOGOF's.

I noticed that today too, but they did have a few '2 for 2 quid' type things - perhaps that's where the extra few pounds have come from, as I bought two boxes of cereal, two jars of mayo, two boxes of ice creams

I think I'm going to try Tesco next week, with a list as I did today (never done Tesco with a list before) - stick to the list and then compare it to this week's. That way I can make an informed decision. Then the week after I'm going to try the Coop, as my neighbour shops there and says it's cheap and apparently their own brand stuff is good quality.

I will report back with my findings!

I'm glad I'm not the only one that has suddenly become a saddo over money saving. I actually am really looking forward to tomorrow, the 1st of the month, because I am planning to post my first ever sig with all my debt figures in it! And then I'll be wishing the month away so I can see the figure drop on the 1st of next month!

Nothing sad about that wanty, in fact it's commendable! That's the way to shop IMHO.

I have Morrisons, Tesco, Sainsbury and Asda all relatively near, and I shop in each one for the things I want. Ok perhaps Sainsbury is not cheaper in anything, it just that some stuff they do I particularly like, but the idea is still valid.

If lots and lots of customers went around comparing prices and being seen by staff and managers to do so, I bet the ensuing price war would be relentless...:p

I only shop at Asda for my once a month 'main' items, the rest of the time I used Lidls....:T
Honestly, what a saving to be made by going to lidls....
I have 1 around the corner from my house so I have been going to Lidls for years.....
Try going to lidls, savings are good!!!
