I thought the same until I looked it up, but it's actually the PL12D we were both thinking of! Probably won't mean much to the youngsters on the forum, but it was THE thing to have once upon a time!

Check the link below for the specs of this item. Quite good really for this price - will read DVD-RAM but not write it apparently - shame.

Unless you were rich enough to buy a Linn Sondek LP12 (I wasn't!
)
Judging by ebay, I'm still not rich enough to buy even an old one!

I started out with a Garrard SP25 Mk IV (who didn't?) but hit "turntable heaven" when my mate's dad sold me hid Goldring Lenco GL75P because he'd upgraded to a Thorens. For a schoolboy this was definitely a cut above the rest

It does appear that this thread has now been hijacked by fortysomethings talking about record players they owned in the 70s. Let's just call it "educational"

It would appear so - so lets try get it back on topic
From an investment perspective my £100 1979 Technics direct drive turntable is still sold today for around £320. So go grabbit today and sell it for a grand in another 30 years time !

You want the LG series of writers for that. They've always been compatible with practically all media. I still have my 8 speed LG and it's going strong.Marillion - A Better Way of Life.0 -
Best investment would have been the Amstrad TP12D. This was £39.99 new in the mid-70s and at one point was available for under £20.
Even poor examples sell on eBay for up to £100 now. There's a rumour that it's a rebadged Rega Planet. There's another rumour that the only common component is the switch and it's a pile of junk
