Redirected phone calls...scam ???

I don't know whether this is the right place for this but please tell me if not...
A few weeks ago I rang EDF on 08000969000 and got a voice saying "Orbit Telecom" so I put the phone straight down.
A while later I dialled again and the same thing happened twice more.
A while later the call went through to EDF OK.
Apart from thinking how strange I forgot about it.
Today I received my phone bill and those calls have been taken as 09000969000 - a premium rate line for which I have been charged 48p per occurrence.
Now £ 1.50 in total is not the issue, but how can this happen.
It is as if someone (Orbit?) has somehow diverted my 0800 call by changing the 8 to a 9 so it ends up as the 0900 number.
Is this a scam, or have I got a faulty phone taking an 8 as a 9 on occasion.
It is the first time this has happened and it is a massive coincidence if it is my phone that it should divert to a premium rate number.
Any one experienced anything similar, or just can anyone help out there

Even if your call to the 0800 number was diverted to an 090 number you would still only be charged as per the call to the 0800 number (nothing). Either your phone was playing up and sent out digit 9 or there was a problem with the line / exchange etc. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0

No its not a scam you have either got a fault on your phone,or you misdialed.
You cant change the cost of a call in mid flow so if it was free 0800 call to start with then thats the way it would stay.
The 0900 numbering range you managed to reach in error is provided by O-bit Telcom.0
