Having worked for a number of these Retail Giants, there appears to be some truths, half truths and total fabrications

Suppliers have to supply within an agreed timeslcae the correct quantity for the correct price in the right condition. Do this and Mr T has no leg to stand on. However if for example you make jumpers and the initial delivery sells poorly, they may try to get out of future orders on that product if the supplier gives them the chance. If they deliver late or in the wrong quantity then Mr T will say no thanks and try to get out on that basis if it suits. If the jumper has sold brilliantly then the repeat order will get fast tracked through the warehouse, irrespective of whether the supplier has delivered too many size 10's or not.

Mr T does what is right for him in order to bring us low prices. We are the market force at work here, so if we want to treat our suppliers more ethically then we need to be choosier where we shop
