PPI claims in the Republic of Ireland

Hi, Apologies if this has been covered before. I did have a look and could not see anything similar.

My OH is Irish and has a Euro based Bank of Ireland Credit Card. He rarely spent on it but on his latest bill I noticed he has been paying a PPI charge. I have double checked his records and he was a student when he was offered the insurance, it states this on the application. It also states in the small print that students are ineligible to claim.

He was a student for a long time and was ineligible to claim for 5 years out of the 7 he has had the card. As he rarely spent on the card it is not a huge amount but the €5 or so charges each time add up pretty rapidly over a long period of time.

I've done a search on Irish websites and found some articles which mention that it has often been sold unlawfully. I just wanted to know if anyone has any experience of claiming from Ireland? I'm planning to follow a similar model to making a UK claim.

If anyone has any advice or experience it would be most appreciated.

Thanks for your help,

Whatagain

    Hello there ;)

I think your OH should definately give it a go, hopefully others who are from Ireland will also post up with their experience as well.
I am not sure if the timescales are the same but the procedures should be.
For more on reclaiming with useful guidelines to reclaiming here:
    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance
Check though the link and also check the mis selling checklist for other reasons, but with your OH just being a student at the time, he has a good case anyway.
May I ask if possible how long ago this was?
Yet many have still been successful on reclaims going back as far as the 1990's.;)

Please ask for help anytime as well, good luck, and keep at them.

I will give it a go and keep this thread updated with my progress. Hopefully it will help anyone else in the same situation as I know there are quite a few people from Ireland on here.

    Bring it on.

Hi, as this the republic of Ireland i don't know if the Ombudsman here in the UK could deal with it. I know they say Northern Ireland is covered but don't think the republic of ireland is?? Cannot be 100% but i am hoping someone will confirm this.

    Good luck
