Last Minute or not?

Me and hubby have a week off in September. Are we better off waiting until week before to get a good deal or would we be better off booking something now?

It depends whether you want to go with a tour operator package or package yourself. Due to the World Cup a lot of Tour Operators didnt buy in as many flight seats and hotel rooms as normal, because so many people have stayed at home to watch it. Consequently Tour Ops are trying to keep their prices up for as long as they can.
So the answer to your question is: If you want a Tour operator package, it is better off waiting, but if you are packaging yourself you can get good deals as of now.

I was working in an independant travel agency last year, and we had loads of customers in as soon as September approached expecting great deals once the kids had gone back to school. Sadly there were very few really good deals and people werent saving a lot more than if they'd booked earlier..at least not on named accommodation.

There are always better prices with the allocate-on-arrival packages, but if you've got an idea of where you'd like to stay it may be better to book now rather than risk not getting what you'd like. Ther's always the point in time where the prices may drop by £20-£30 per person, but are immediately cancelled out by having to pay Ticket-on-Departure fees (and some operators apply this charge as long as a month before departure)

If there's 2 of you and you aren't fussy what accommodation or resort, it might be worth waiting: If there is a larger group, or specific requirements like resort, departure time, or airport then you might not get what you want if you wait- September is a really popular month in the med.
