Hi,
I've got to paint some skirting boards tommorrow. They've been painted white for 15 years. However, there are big dark spots coming through which my mum says are the knots showing through.
Do I need to do anything before I paint them a gloss white (apart from rub them down)??
Thanks is advance!

Without striping them back to bare wood there's not a lot you can do about knot showing though. But 15 years worth of paint i would have thought they pretty well sealed in by now.0

Strip them back before painting and use knotting to seal them. Then prime, undercoat and gloss in the usual fashion. Sounds like you were just planning to rub down and gloss them?No free lunch, and no free laptop

I've always used knotting over paint and find it works fine.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

Thanks guys,
Marc, I wasn't planning on priming them, just undercoat and gloss. Will have a look and see if we have any primer,
Thanks again,

I only meant to reprime the bits that you stripped back before applying knotting.
Make sure the knotting is completely dry before overpainting it.No free lunch, and no free laptop
