firstly the HA cannot evict them without a S.21. this gives the tenants one or two months notice to quit the property - only after this time expires can they apply to the court for an eviction order. I find it shocking they are evicting due to 1 months arrears as most HAs only evict as a last resort.
have a look at the Shelter website (cant post links unfortunately) but this provides excellent advice for tenants threatened with eviction.
In terms of claiming hb/ctb get them to ask the LA if they have a fast track new claims process. I know some councils offer this service. if they do ask for what to do and what you need and take up the opportunity! They may be able to pay your claim a lot quicker and i cant see why they cant liase with the housing association to get the matter sorted! All hail to the sale!!!!!!

Don't forget there are 2 types of JSA.
Contribution based and Income based, I am SE and my work has gone really quiet. I am going to be jacking it in and looking for an employed job, so will be off to the JC next week to see what help I can get.
if you go on the direct gov website, there is a benefits advisor tool which can help you work out if you are able to claim anything.0
