We sell your home for free - has anyone heard of them?

My house is currently for sale. I am repeatedly being contacted by some organisation which calls itself something like "we sell your home for free" - they keep trying to pressurise me into having a valuation and keep saying that they can have an offer on the valuation in days. I'm not thinking of getting involved with them as I'm sure they are acting on behalf of investors etc and any company which rings from a withheld number and doesn't put anything in writing strikes me as dodgy but just wondered if anyone had heard of these people and what their particular angle is

There was a thread on here a while back about this company.

The general consensus is that they are one to avoid. They value your home and will get you an offer (below asking price) within a few days. Their terms are to pay them 1% of the sale price which you will get back on completion - ie, you pay at the offer stage and when it completes you get it back from them.

That offer will then fall out prior to completion hence you have to pay them the initial 1% but, as it doesn't complete, you don't get it back from them, so you're out of pocket without a sale.

Stick with your current agent or, if your unhappy with them, instruct another at the end of their exclusive period.

You should never pay upfront for someone else to buy your house from you.

Next time they ring say you're really interested and want to know more. Then call out 'Coming!' and say to them "sorry problem with the baby I'll be right back". Put the phone down (not hanging up) and just leave them there.

See how long it takes for them to hang up!

Many thanks for all these - sounds like them and thanks for the explanation about the scam aspect - I knew there had to be one! Keep getting calls from them saying "well do you want to sell your house or don't you " - well yes I do but not to you - then it was on to "we are ringing to make arrangements for valuation on your house" etc etc- won't take no for an answer so I'll be using the phone tactic next.........

  • This information has been useful to us - perhaps if we all give the Office of Fair Trading a quick ring - 0845 722 4499 - to enquire about this company and give as much info as we can then we will help to sort things out for others as well!
SYH4free.com says it it registered with Company House -reg no. 07028395 from 24/9/2009 - so they should be able to investigate them. Still waiting to know what happened to the guy who paid his 1% - please update us - we are all in the same boat!
