Hi
I got engaged on Christmas Eve and suspect I'll be spending lots of time here so just wanted to introduce myself and say hello :hello:
Have started looking for venues and requested a few brochures but don't really have a clue when it comes to planning a wedding so will be needing all the help I can get!
Any Leeds/Wakefield/York area tips would be fantastic!
(particularly for venues for a relaxed summertime wedding that have hotels close by if not in a hotel that aren't too expensive and don't expect us to stick to their standard formula if that's not what we want?!)
Thanks

Are you thinking of having church or civil ceremony?
Check out leeds.gov and wakefield.gov websites for venues licenced for weddings.
Having a major stress at minute trying to find a venue big enough for all our people which will do stuff 'our way' not the way they want to force us to do with a 'package'0 -
Depending how far you were looking at travelling we're getting married here http://www.downcliffehouse.co.uk/ in Filey, North Yorkshire. Bit far from Leeds maybe but its a beautiful hotel and they haven't done many weddings yet (think ours will be the second) so they don't have a set formula for anything0

A friend of mine got married here and it was lovely - the gardens were perfect for the photos etc. Wasn't really involved in any of the planning so couldn't comment on other aspects I'm afraid

Im Leeds way (ish) Bingley. Always happy to help xx East Riddlesdne Hall has a wedding fair this weekend. I'll confirm it's going ahead. Wonderful place and various travel lodges arond the area too (within 5 mins)
ETA 24th 25th Jan. Next weekend.0 -
Thanks everyone!
Probably civil ceremony - I was brought up catholic and parents still attend the same church so if it was a church it would have to be that one for me. But OH is not religious at all so not sure if we would be allowed, not sure how strict the catholic church is these days. I've been presuming he really wouldn't want a church wedding but should prob ask him to make sure before ruling this out altogether! (Though that would impose more restriction on reception venue to be in reasonable distance of the church)Are you thinking of having church or civil ceremony?
Thanks, looks nice but think Filey is a bit too far for us.Depending how far you were looking at travelling we're getting married here http://www.downcliffehouse.co.uk/ in Filey, North Yorkshire. Will have a look at Beningbrough Hall and East Riddlesden.
I spotted there are wedding fairs this Sunday at Weetwood Hall, Waterton Park and a Holiday Inn so might try to get to one of those - will get my excitement levels up if nothing else

Being MSE this isn't very but Denton Hall is gorgeous!! Very Mr. Darcy and the catering is done my Box Tree Events. Top chef!!
As I said, not very MSE but budgeting is about spending in the ares you want and not in others not total cut back.0 -
Never heard of that, will google for it now, thanks Linda!0

Argh! Wrote a long reply then lost it

Denton Hall looks lovely, and I've been to Waterton Park before (though not to a wedding) and the grounds there would be absolutely fantastic for photos!
We were originally thinking of having a fairly relaxed day, with the ceremony later in the afternoon (so we would then only need to feed people once) and a hog roast or something rather than a formal sit down dinner, so some of the venues that although lovely might not be suited to that. It would only work the way I'm picturing it on a beautiful warm sunny summers day though which is never guaranteed!
Not totally set on that though, also considering getting married in March as the anniversary of the day we met happens to fall on a Saturday next year so that is tempting, but would be a completely different plan at that time of year! Suspect we may change our minds a few more times before actually booking anything and come up with something else entirely, we're rather indecisive
Thanks for all the replies so far ladies
