My son is due to claim ALG as he is staying on in college and is now 19, on the website it says to get the full amount of £1500 per year our income has to be under £5,895 but they take into account taxable benefits. My hubby is on long term incapacity and I get carers allowance. When I roughly add up the figures of £85 IB p/w and £53 CA p/w I get over the amount to qualify for the full ALG. My query is though as we are also on income support surely my son should get the full amount? Since we get income support this means we are on the lowest income you can have.

If your income from taxable benefits takes you over the threshold for the Assembly Learning Grant then that would make your son ineligible. A couple on JSA would have a far lower income.

my son is 19,he is getting alg,me nd my partner are on income support based incapacity so far i have had no problems and he has been told he can get the full sum,he cant claim a continguancy fund or anything else and if you work out wat they do get its guna be the same as ema,so none of us are any better off,i just keep searching for all the grant he mite mabye get
