Do you think this will be ok?

Hi
I got engaged on New Years Eve, yay!
We're hoping to get married in September so i'm trying to get started with all the planning.
I want to try and get married for under £2500. I've already seen the dress I want from Landy Bridal, it's actually a bridesmaid dress rather than a "proper" wedding dress so it's only going to cost about £60 I think. Bargain
I don't think we can afford a wedding breakfast for 33 people plus an evening buffet for 100 people so I think we're going to possibly skip the wedding breakfast.
I've looked into the Holiday Inn and Britannia deals, i've contacted the individual hotels and I don't really like any of the packages they are offering.
So I was wondering if you think this would be ok....
Get married 4pm (at a registry office)
Photos from 4.30pm - 5.15pm ish
Taxis to hotel, probably take about 15 mins so 5.30pm
Drinks & canapes from 5.30pm til 7pm
Evening reception 7pm til whenever
Obviously most of these times are estimates. Do you think the drinks & canapes bit is too long? Or do you think it'll be nice for the day guests to mingle before the evening reception starts?
Thanks

I don't think the drinks and canapes is too long ~ our guests will be mingling from 4pm - 7pm, till our evening reception starts (we're having drinks and canapes too).
They are all mainly family though so they will be fine with that.
ETA : Congratulations on the engagement!!!!!! xxTank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
Sorry to hijack your thread hayley but I was wondering something about the 'running order' to. Me and DF are getting married (civil ceremony) in the same place we are having the reception, we are also having a full sit-down meal. What is the 'usual' running order for this?
Ceremony
Photos, tea and coffee for guests while having photos or is there any point if we're having a meal soon anyway??
Meal
Break??
Reception...
I really have no idea lol0 -

When my friend got married and had everything in a hotel, it went like this...
Ceremony
Photos (there was a bar and people did get drinks)
Meal
About an hours break, there was a bar so either people went there or if they had a room booked, they went to their rooms.
Evening reception

this is the guide the hotel sent me for a run of service. were having everything in the hotel. they said we can change any of it but this seems to be what most people choose.
2pm - ceremony
3pm - ceremony ends/bride and groom have photo's taken and guests have arrival drink
4pm - guests are seated - it is up to you whether you want to welcome all your guests in a line
4.15pm - speeches
5pm - wedding breakfast
7.30pm - evening guests arrive
8pm - first waltzwould love to win an ipad!

Congratulations!
I am also on a tight budget and getting married in September, we are getting married on Friday 17th, how about you?
our plan is fairly similar to you, we are having an intimate reg office wedding with immediate family only at 3.30 and then will have photos in our local town gardens (very pretty location) which i estimate will be until 5pm.
we are not having the reception in a hotel but are having an evening reception only. we are hiring a venue and catering ourselves so between 5-7pm we will all go off to collect the food and take it to the venue and then our reception will start at 7pm :-)
good luck with all your planning :-)0 -
Thanks hunnycat, gives me more of an idea, does a civil ceremony take an hour though? I had heard they r quite short...0

they are usually about 20/30 mins. we are having a humanist wedding which will be a bit longer due to friends being involved. I think we are going to start about 2.30 rather than 2would love to win an ipad!

If it's a civil ceremony without any readings then it only takes about 20 minutes
