At last, after 8 months of hell!
Looked at a BTL flat in November, got talking to the agent and went to see a house for us. Didn't like the house but caught the moving bug.
EA came around and valued are house lowish. We decide not to move. He shows 2 people the house as a favour. One of them offers asking price!
We then find a house. Delay and delay up the chain, our buyer exchanges on his sale, still problems with the chain, so he disappears into rented.
Within 2 days we have a new buyer ( they leafletted the road). Amazingly the house we are after has 2 other buyers now interested in the space of one weekend. We get gazumped, then the problems up the chain compound and the seller of the house we are after loses the house they were after. Pure Karma.
We find house number 2. All moving along nicely then FTB can't get a mortgage. Chain about to crumble, so we step in and buy the house at the bottom of the chain as a BTL.
So in 10 days I've got to complete on 2 houses!

Always a difficult decision to decide whether to wait for your buyer to find new buyers or to find a new buyer yourself.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I've bought and/or sold five properties and not one has had a chain at either end.
Don't think i could stand the stress!
1: We were FTBs, the seller had already moved. We still have this house.
2: Paid for mother-in-law's Council Prefab, she signed it over to my husband after the tie-in period was over.
3. This was a BTL apartment. Seller had already moved so flat was empty.
4. Sold Prefab to buyer who was renting.
5. Bought house halfway up a mountain in Spain as a cash purchase with proceeds of Prefab. Seller had already moved. This is where we live at the moment.
6. Bought adjoining derelict house again paying cash (£12000! Yes, twelve thousand!). Derelict. so obviously empty!
7. Sold investment property to someone else buying-to-let.
When the derelict house has been renovated, we'll sell that, but the property market is different here in Spain, so a chain if there is one won't be a problem.
Absolutely COULDN'T stand a chain. I'd be a nervous wreck.
Well done Silvercar! Two houses for only one lot of stress! Enjoy!(AKA HRH_MUngo)
