    It's not the tube. It's a big real grown-up train. :D
How are you getting to Kings Cross? If by train, why not get one ticket through to Gatwick?

It is about 30 miles by road... over an hour. Taxi will be v. expensive.

Check its a straight through train, call them.

I thought you could only get straight to Gatwick from Victoria or London Bridge (but I don't know much about trains).

A cab would prob be about £50 - my DH is a cab driver I can ask him how much its likely to be if you want? I can't see it being much less than £50, especially as its north central London.

Is it one adult & children & luggage?
If so don't even think about tube, if no direct train get a cab between stations.

As KeithP stated St. Pancras to Gatwick, 4 trains an hour, jouney time 45 mins, no changes. £8:90 per adult single, ask for a "Groupsave" ticket and it will cost you £18:80 for the group, 2 adults X £8.90 + £1 for the third child, the other 2 kids go free as part of the groupsave deal.
