Mine does that sometimes and the PC either keeps restarting or it won't come back on again  Turns out it's a loose wire from the power unit thing to a little box of wires that plugs into the motherboard. I can't fix it cos the little box is a sealed unit and I can't get in. So I wiggle the yellow wire and the fan starts again.

That's not really helpful is it? :o :rotfl:

cut all the wires of the fan... it wont go on and off then... just stay off... will also make your PC quieter... stealth mode!

or a more helpfull suggestion... use a voltmeter to see the voltage going into the fan when the fan's running and stopped... does the voltage change?

Just had to check you'd posted this on the techie forum after reading the advice you've been given.

    Move it somewhere cooler?

  • What are your system temperatures?? Try installing motherboard monitor and if your system has temperature sensors it will report the readings to this programme. Moving your pc to a cooler place may help or even using a fan to blow some cool air onto it while in use if you cannot move it.

Also it maybe useful to check if any of the air inlets or fans in your case,PSU or graphics card are clogged with dust as this will impair the cooling effiency of the whole system and cause the temperatures to increase.

If this is not the case you could try replacing your case fans with quieter ones or even larger diameter fans(if possible) as these spin much more slowly and hence produce less noise.

Yet another suggestion is to replace your pc cooler if it is a stock one with something higher performance and use a better thermal interface material.
