Tax credit run-on - oops?

Hi. I stopped work on the 26th December and assumed i would get tax credit run-on. I am now applying for income support/housing benefit. With regards the tax credit run-on, i assumed this was done automatically and you didn't need to contact them - so i didn't! After doing a search though, it seems i should have rung and told them and it takes a few weeks for the money to come through. I actually only have one payment left so i don't want to ring them now in case i don't get that last payment. But i need proof of payment for the IS claim! So, do i risk calling them now and getting a new award letter sent out but lose (for the time being) next weeks payment or wait until they send it themselves???
I like my money right where I can see it - hanging in my closet.;)

Changes you must tell us about within one month

You must tell us about the following changes within one month as they may mean your tax credit payments go down. If you don't you may have to pay a penalty of up to £300. The reduction in your payments will be backdated to the date the change happened:
    You work less hours

You must tell us if you stop working. It doesn't matter if you're self-employed or you work for someone else.

  • How would tax credits know you had stopped working unless you tell them? If you wait until after next week you're unlikely to get any run on as it will have already been paid to you and due to the delay you might end up being overpaid.

When you call them up you will need to tell them the date you stopped work, then you will probably only get the next 1 payment of WTC then it will go down after that. Bear in mind that IS will take a few weeks to come through AFTER you have been for the interview and signed the papers. Thats why the run on is there to help you in those few weeks you are waiting
