The memory stick says it is full when it is'nt

I read installing Microsoft word onto a netbook answered by markymoo and amcluesent which worked well ( so thanks ) now I am trying to install the upgrade plus CD to my memory stick and it keeps telling me it is full when it has only part downloaded. It isnt , because I can add other stuff not conected to the program. I can see that the memory stick drive is only part filled. I have also cleaned up the volume error section on the memory stick in properties. has anyone any further thoughts on this ? I am wondering if defragmenting the file on the memory disk would help . Any thoughts on this approach only I am loathed to spend more money on a cd external drive. The program is pinnacle studio which I bought 2 years ago and upgraded to pinaccle plus and works fine on my desktop computer. I am not that technical so maybe I am being to ambitious.

is it a portable version of "Pinnacle Studio" that you are trying to put on the memory stick. If not it is highly unlikely that it would work anyway.

    Is the memory key genuine?
There have been fakes formatted to look as though they have a larger capacity.

You're not trying to copy a very large file to the flash drive are you? (Larger than the maximum file size supported by the file system).

  • Thank you for your quick responces ,Enigma 52 ,firstly it is not a portable program it is on CD and I have managed to install pinnacle 9 from the flash memory drive as well as the pinnacle plus cd extra. haveing copied them in the first instance.
nomoneyday , It is a genuine memory stick from pc world a 2 gb integral.

Stompa, you have hit the nail on the head I think. since putting my thread on, I paused for thought and looked at the size of the program on the original cd for pinnacle plus. pinnacle plus iself is ok but the bonus content dvd is infact 4.25 gb which is .25 and a bit more too large for my 4gb flash D. I felt a complete dumbo and so annoyed for not looking in the first place. As I say I am only a one-a-be techi to save money and I don't always recognise the obvious. Thank you so much all of you because all your answers could have been right. I may just put up with things as they are for a while. As my cost saving attempts have bitten me twice today. I only bought the 4 gb flash this morning at almost £19 and
discovered later that I could have bought it for £7 not to mention a 16 gb for less than the shop I was in... So I am not much good at this moneysaving lark as I try to be..I will get a larger flash at some point and will let you know if it works.... Cheers :T:money:
  • I have placed my reply with my thread of the memory stick says it is full.
    Cheers and thanks

What I really meant was that perhaps you were trying to copy a single file greater than 4GB in size to a FAT32 formatted drive, which would fail even if the drive had a larger capacity than the file.

doesn't pinnacle plus cost money therefore it is illegal to copy to a memory stick.

(maybe its a trial dont know thought i would say that)
  • I have already copied my original program to a fat 32 flash drive and its plus dvd content which actually works on my notepad. what I have discovered is that the original program file size is smaller than the 2nd upgrade that I also bought. pinnacle 9 being the original and pinnacle plus being the upgrade. The first works perfectly and was copied to and from my memory stic. First from my disc drive on my desk top to the memory stick then I transfered it to my new notebook. It is the upgrade I am having problems with and copying.
I will eventually buy a larger flash drive and try again.

    Cheers sue

It is a bought and paid for program. nobody told me I had to buy a whole set of new programs when I bought my notebook with nothing on but windows. it is for my own personal use only and I understood a program could be used on any machine if used by the registered owner , which I am. It is purely that notebooks do not have cd drives.
    Cheers and thanks

Could you not transfer this file from your desktop over your home network to your netbook?
