Sole occupant council tax but having a lodger?

Oh come on, you know of a council in the land which doesn't waste money on something?
These guys come under a lot of stick. This very council attempted to argue with the independant assessment of schooling in the area rather than just accept the judgement and fix the damn problem.
Yeah, They did offer a local collection point for us to take our rubbish bags to where the bin lorry would be waiting.
It was open from 0830 till 1530 on a work day and the roads to it are on slopes.
So essentially they are saying it's too dangerous for the bin lorry to come to you but perfectly fine for you to vist it.
They could have managed a collection.
Certainly the schools in the area were open, the buses were running the emergency services, telecoms, meter readers but apparently the bin men cannot cope.0 -

With organisations that large of course you can find something you personally consider wasteful. The same is true of private companies. And now I think about it I can think of quite a few families/households which do things I consider 'wasteful'!
Sounds like they are trying. The weather has been terrible, waste lorries do not drive well on icy side-roads. I've had no such 'local collection point' but took my rubbish to the tip once the thaw started as the council clearly has a huge backlog of collections. They are not magicians!Yeah, They did offer a local collection point for us to take our rubbish bags to where the bin lorry would be waiting.

And so they should. Everyone (probobly including you!) complains bitterly when council tax goes up, but if people who don't pay, or who fraudulantly claim single person discount, don't get chased, then everyone else's council tax has to go up further.just remember if you don't pay council tax they have a limitless budget with which to pursue you.0 -
Or they could just stop wasing the money instead.
When you have no regulation to stop you raising the money you obtain from people it's very easy to keep doing so. That's one of the reasons why we have some many "non-jobs" in the councils up and down the country.
In busines, public service supply contract pay dividends. You can pretty much charge or sell waht you want. No one seems to care for the purchase cost, at least not even in the same ball park as a private company.
I've worked plenty of places in different sectors and seen public bodies getting screwed. It's the norm. End of the day it's the taxes that go up to support the profiteering.
Waste lorries don't drive well on icy side roads. perhaps they should fit them with a plough or preceed them with a gritter?
Novel idea, gritting the roads. These jokers even managed to miss out some of the major A roads in the area. Not just on the first day but at all over the last couple of weeks.
Oh and one of the only two salt mines in the country is right next door.
Perhaps they are one of the lot who made the moronic decision to put their (no, our) money into Iceland and now we are seeing the consequences?0 -
house-sitter - please go and rant elsewhere.... this is a thread about council tax0

HouseSitter: I assume since you are so [STRIKE]opinionated[/STRIKE] knowledgeable about local government that you (a) exercise your right to vote in every local and national election, (b) know all about the Power2010 movement http://www.power2010.org.uk/votes (c) are active in politics at a grass roots level?
