Travel insurance - can you claim on several policies?
Comments
-
We have a travel insurance policy through our bank which does not cover winter sports unless we pay an extra premium and disclose any prior conditions.
We have taken out a more comprehensive travel insurance policy through my husband's employer which does include winter sports cover. This commences on 1 April 2010. This is the same date we go on a skiing holiday.
I know that it's not lawful to claim for the same thing from 2 insurers, but my question is, am I better to cancel the bank policy which is not as good? The reason I ask is because insurers often state that if you are insured on another policy they will not pay out in the event of a claim. Would this mean both insurers could get out of paying a claim because I have 2 policies?!!0 -
Hi,
I have 2 travel insurance. 1 from Lloydstsb premium Account and another from Bank of scotland Ultimate reward account.
recently I lost my luggage. Can I claim both of the insurance?
in Lloydtsb premium is: 2500 pound and Bank of scotland : 1500 pound
but i heard lloytsb is very nosy and they always try to return 0.
Can anyone suggest me, can i claim both insurance. if not which one will be good to claim?
Thanks is advance.

You can't put 2 claims in.
Claim off the company with the lowest excess. (assuming their limit covers all your loss)0 -
One of the principles of insurance 'Contribution' prevents this. If 2 or more parties cover the same risk they share the relevant portion of the claim.0

I thought it depended on the type of policy.
If you have multiple policies that pay out a fixed sum if a defined something happens then you can claim on them all if that something does happen. Policy might say it will pay out £25k if you lose an eye or £200 if you get delayed 24 hours at an airport.
If you have multiple policies that will cover some or all of your costs if a defined something happens then you can’t make multiple claims if it the result would be you get the same cost paid twice. Policy might say it will cover your medical expenses up to £25k if you lose an eye or pay your hotel bill up to £200 if you get delayed 24 hours at an airport.0 -
Vaio,
I agree with what you have put, covered this in my insurance exams a few years back.
Will post again if I can find the paperwork.0 -
I was interested in this as I actually have 3 travel policies.
1 x Nationwide from the flex account.
1 x Sainsbury's which expires in April taken out before N/wide changes.
and 1 through work which started in January
The one through work includes worldwide, winter sport and my son with no neccessity to disclose existing conditions which is why I took it out. But I could only take it out in January or June.0
