Lease Car Servicing Before Return
Looking for any thought on this. And before anyone asks yes I am trying to avoid paying it
.
Background
Leased a Grand Cherokke for 24 months (arrived 2 February 2008) car due to go back 29 January 2010 according to finanace company I dispute this. Broker who arranged deal told me it was taxed for length of contract it wasn't broker has apparently been wound up, but although trading under the same name is a totally new company. Anyway I have no paper work to back that up taht VED is covered so a bit miffed at that extra £400. They also taxed the vehicle in January so it runs out in December which is also annoying as I didn't get a full years VED.
So my costs are a bit higher than I had budgeted for and I'm slightly miffed that the broker stitched me up (but hey ho my fault for not getting it in writing)
The crux of the problem
The car is due its 2 year service at 2 years or 25,000 miles. The car will have done 21,500 miles and will be under 2 years old (registered on 30th January 2008) when I return it on the 29th January. I did point out to them that I will have had the car a few days shy of 2 years, but they maqintain that is the day it is due back.
On reading the contract all it seems to say is car will be maintained to maufacturers recommedations.
Can I hand the car back without doing the service or will they hit me with it later?
My other pain is a slate fell on the bonnet and it has to go in for a bonnet respray next week at great expense...arghh.

Come on guys any thoughts?0

My thought would be that if it has to be maintained to manufacturer recommendations then thats what needs to be stuck to
When you hand the car back to them it will be less than 2 years old and will have done less than 24,000 so why should you pay to have it done early? Not that I'm an expert :rolleyes:Proud of who, and what, I am. :female::male::cool:0 -
If that's all it says on the contract then that's all they can reasonably expect. The car's simply not due a service, I'd say whether its not due for 24 hours is irrelevent.
This is of course purely opinion, do you have any more small print on the contract to give you a more informed view?0 -
That is my way of reading the situation I have got a reasonable quote (being expensive via main dealer) for the (big) 2 year service, but I'm worried they will hit me with a much higher servicing bill later via their dealer.0

Dont service it...... seen this loads when I was in the trade. The buying dealer will do one when they sell it anyway.'Just because its on the internet don't believe it 100%'. Abraham Lincoln.
I have opinions, you have opinions. All of our opinions are valid whether they are based on fact or feeling. Respect other peoples opinions, stop forcing your opinions on other people and the world will be a happier place.0 -
Or it'll just end up in the auctions with next buyer getting it done.0

I would agree that, as the vehicle is being returned before the service is due then it is not your responsibility.
On the subject of a service, there is no requirement to have the vehicle serviced by an expensive main dealer:::::In October 2003 European Union legislation affecting the motor trade came into force. Its full title is “Block Exemption Regulations 1400/2002" (in short ‘BER’).0
