Getting bored of it...

  • Thanks! Do feel a bit better. I think sometimes it just hits you more than others, when you think of all the things you'd like to do and then hit the "debt wall" that stops you!
Funny you should mention the volunteering- I phoned my local centre about a week ago and am waiting for them to get back to me with stuff I can do. Sounds like a good idea. I think the main thing that gets to me is that "stuck in the house" feeling.
Still, it makes me feel better to have the support from you guys, even just a "Me too!" can make you feel less fed up and lonely. Thanks.

  • I know exactly how you feel too. All I do though is focus on what I am aiming for when I am debt free, ie: moving house, then having children, to try nd keep myself motivated.

On the volunteering side, I contacted the Alzheimer's Society and became a befriender to an elderly lady. She's absolutely fascinating, and asking her questions about her childhood was far more interesting than watching DVDs etc! I would highly recommend it as a way of not spending, as my boyfriend and I got to the point where we were playing hide and seek in a one-bedroom flat to pass the time without spending money!

    Good luck Lady Fushcia!

I do have occasional moments when I miss the old days (holidays - always one beach one ski at least, gigs, nights in the pub etc) and wonder if ignorance was indeed bliss. Have a little downer and wonder what is out there in this big old world that is passing me by.

But then I come on here and it makes me feel so much better. I would also like to start a family when I am debt free and that is sooo much more rewarding than any of the above....

I get bored too but I go on other chat sites/forums in the evenings which is free and good fun. I also love cycling and gardening which both keep me occupied at home. I long for the day when I can go out shopping and spend £200 on lovely new clothes and shoes (which is how I got into this mess in the first place) but until that day I'll put up with the boredom. Oh yes, someone else mentioned lime + soda and I'll second that- it costs 31p in one pub that I go to! Definitely worth an outing to a beer garden.

Know exactly what you mean & sometimes feels like you're just saving money & are boring! Hard to get excited about cleaning (even with stardrops!) again...can actually get quite depressing! Unsure of the answer as just finding it myself! Having a hobby can help (cross stitch, scrapbooking etc for me!) & you can get library books to help. Since DFW have rediscovered my love of reading & listening to music & am going to recommit to excercise when I get back...good way to beat the blues & shift much needed ibs. You do need treats tho - am sipping my Friday night can of G&T as I type (£1.36!) which some will think expensive but when you think I used to drink a bottle of wine regularly!! Guess its about a new way of life 0 have also redisoverd cooking (but must stop making muffins!!) and enjoy it but also recognise that I've noot seen friends for ages so need to get out more & have a laugh!! Big hugs & hope you feel more fulfilled soon - can also recc vo work & used to visit a lady in her home which was great & meant a great deal to her which in turn meant alot to me!

I know where you are mate, my OH and I were so keen at first but then you feel like what is the point. Since discovering DFW ways we have had more one off bills than ever before, in April we had £1000 worth of unplanned bills and you just feel like your hitting your head against a wall buit then I realise we probably got these kinds of bills bvefore but they went on a card so we didn't really notice them. What we do now is with our normal wage we have a set amount to pay bills and debt off but then whatever extra money we make from quidco, ebay, overtime etc etc etc we half. Half for bills, half for us to do what we want and we really appreciate the mopney we get and actually end up buying sensible things like lawnmowers etc because even when we have guilt free do what you want with money we can't bear to blow it and we're sensible, but it feels so nice to buy things with CASH that you can afford.

Good luck and keep us upto date.

Yeah I get frustrated and bored at times too.

When I get like that, I try to think about what it will be like when the CC payments aren't coming out every month (which will hopefully be by the end of the year) and I can spend some money without guilt.

You have to have some money to live on so get inventive with what you do have. If you can rope in a friend to save money with so much the better.

Two of my good friends are always up for saving a bit of cash so we look for ways to go out & have a great time with a tenner which generally involves scavanging lifts (or one of us will drive that night and the other will drive next time), getting a drinks voucher if we get into a gig before 10pm or something then making pints of lager last as long as possible!

Or boyfriend & I go to a pub we like which sells a big bowl of Thai Fries & Chilli dip for £3 which we can share over a couple of drinks & have a big chat and be sociable/enjoy being out at the same time.

Research local forums and papers for cheap or free attractions/fetes which could be fun.

Check out http://www.daysoutuk.com as well, you may find something there or vouchers to help out.

On the clothes/accessories front, I've discovered a great charity shop which is in a reasonably posh little town near my works and I pick up great stylish clothes bargains there so these days, that is my first choice if I need something and I feel happier as I'm not a fashion clone of everyone else walking down the street as well.

Remember to keep your mind & eyes open to alternatives to spending money on the obvious. People will be jealous of your creativity when you start to tell them about good times you've had for free or on the cheap!

Don't give up though whatever you do.

  • Keep on going - am learning how you feel!!! What about signing up to some Mystery Shopping companies?? Some are for banks but you get some meals out or drinks sometimes which would be nice

Its up to you whether you accept the jobs, but I haven't had any spam from anything yet (although have got a separate gmail account just in case!)

Just a suggestion! Try this site for lots of links and written by a Money Saver!!
