Hi all,
I'm trying to connect 2 computers to btbroadband via a hub.
The host computer is 'pinging' the client computer successfully - the client computer is showing a LAN connection at 10mb - but is not recognising the host computer when trying to ping back.
I've been through the network wizard - changed the hub for one that I know definitely works - that is lit up appropriately.... .but why therefore can I not surf from the client computer??

Does the host pc have a firewall enabled - try disabling it temporarily as it might be blocking pings.0

Do they both have a different ipaddress allocated?
ipconfig /all
try ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
if they don't have a 192.168.x.x address allocated.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -

is this a router, or just a hub? If the latter, have you setup ICS? If the former, have you ticked never dial a connection in IE, can you ping https://www.google.com?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

erm - an 'ethernet hub' and can't ping google.
What's ICS? (apologies for ignorance)Bern :j0 -
ICS = Internet Connection Sharing, a standard part of Windows XP which allows a computer to share its internet connection with another computer.0
-
how easy is that to change?Bern :j0
-
there are loads of ICS guides on the web:
http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=internet+connection+sharing&meta=
or just type ics into help on XP.
But a router is far easier, and more secure (if you have £20-40 to spare), or 60 if you want to go wireless.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
