Overcharged by GAP

Hi, I apologise in advance if this is in the wrong section but I am hoping someone can help me.
Basically on Saturday I took a skirt back to GAP Outlet for a refund as they offer this service within x many days of buying it. Their till system was broken, so they hand wrote me a receipt, writing REFUND on it, and marking the credit card bit as a minus.
However upon checking my bank statement I have been charged for this again, so I have now paid twice for a skirt I do not even own! I almost went over my overdraft limit because of their incompetence so I want to make it known that I have researched the applicable laws etc to show I mean business as I am really unhappy with this!
One assumes that my consumer rights cover me that if I go instore they should just give me two refunds by showing my bank statement and original receipt? Am I entitled to anything else?
I have looked for a customer complaints address on their website but helpfully they do not have a separate UK website, nor do they have any addresses for the UK, just the USA.
I cannot do anything about it until after work tomorrow as it was from an Outlet store rather than a normal store so I need to wait until I get home.
Any help or links to what I am entitled to by law would be much appreciated as I have searched Google to no avail.
Moral of the story is always check your bank statements!

Thanks Searcher for your help
In the end they refunded me twice which I expected, and they gave me a GAP gift card for £10. So that's not too bad, but it still raises the issue of the staff not being trained properly!0 -
The assistant made a mistake, it happens...have you never made one? Sorry you have, you couldn't find Gap in the UK using Google when it's top of the list when you search properly.0

Go into the shop and tell them I'am sure they'll sort it out. You don't need to know any of the relevant laws until they refuse to sort out the problem.0
