I live in Nottinghamshire.
This morning, has to be the worst driving conditions I have ever known.
Almost every road was like sheet ice..........and my citroen c5 estate was left parked at the roadside, half way to work:eek:

I have to agree, I can't remember the last time I saw ice so bad.... de-icer wouldn't touch it, scraper couldn't scrape it, it was just a case of sitting and waiting for the car to get warm enough to melt it off. Driving on black ice was a first for me this year, I can't say as I really care for it!!

You're telling me, the amount of cars that tried and failed to drive along my road the morning was staggering. I even saw one guy get stuck, because he didn't want to continue downhill and then couldn't reverse backwards, abandon his car and then on his hands and knees crawl over to the pavement, I kid you not.

  • On my sons walk in to work this morning, he saw no less than 9 collisions! He also saw people crossing the road on their hands and knees.

I live in central london, and we have escaped the worst of the last few weeks... until today. Had about 3 inches, which doesnt sound much but the council didnt grit any of the roads or pavements and so it quickly turned into compressed snow, sheet ice and slush.

    Roads and pavements were terrible.

Luckily by the time I had come home it had warmed up quite a bit and melted. Come the morning that ice would have been deadly otherwise.

I agree Nottinghamshire was awful for black ice. I thought i would get the bus instead of driving. What a bad idea that was! Currently sitting here in a velcro cast (mid thigh to mid shin) and on crutches! Slipped on the road (not the pavement) on the way to the bus, Result torn ligaments in knee, no work for 2 weeks and no driving. Great when i have just started a new job!

There's a thaw comming this weekend, so the Met Office says - should be more than 5C for tomorrow and the weekend.

Snow's melted on my route to work and revealed that every pothole that was cheaply filled in by Berkshire CC last year has reappeared!

Welcome to my world :) I saw my first gritter in a MONTH come down my street today after a half inch flurry. They didn't bother their !!!!! when it was about a foot deep the other week. Maybe the gritter was snowed in.....
