Rover 200 problems.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has experienced these problems with Rover 200s.

My car has started to judder while it is being driven. It feels like the juddering that happens before a car stalls but it happens in almost every gear, at variable speeds etc. It is fine sometimes, othertimes it happens once or twice and more frequently it happens constantly on a journey.

The additional problem which may or may not be linked is that it stalled on me a couple of times while I was waiting at junctions, it started up fine after a couple of tries.

Any help would be appreciated, I know nothing about cars. It's a V reg diesel.

I made the mistake of buying a rover too. I had a 220 but had the same problem. An RAC man told me that it happens on most rovers.

Theres a cable that connects from the air conditioning to something else.. thats what the problem is you need to unplug it.

    Thats it.

I can't remember where it plugged into but i'm sure someone else will respond with the exacts.

ah my dad tells me its plugged into the air sensor .. thats where you need to unplug it from!

sounds like a fuelling issue, don't suppose your running on bio-diesel in this cold weather are you?

Hi, no it runs on regular diesel. We've stopped using supermarket diesel in case it was that and it's happening weeks after it should have flushed through.

That makes sense, one of the air blowers on the inside has started only blowing cold air through but the rest are ok.

It was running really well until this happened.

it wont be supermarket deisel, its perfectly fine. and the injectors on the rover can deal with high mix veg oil/ deisel mix anyway.

you may need to plug into the diagnostics to see what the issue is, doubt it will be the air con if im honest..

Trust me. I've had this issue so many times. Mainly because i'm forgetful.

The first time i called out the rac due to this probelm he opened my bonnet, took the plug out and tadaa.. fixed. He said that most rovers have this problem and its very common.

I forgot about this and when called out the rac next - the man not knowing about the problem said "oh you have a cable unplugged here" and proceeded to plug it in for me.

Next thing i know all the above problems happen... i take it to the garage after having enough. £500 later still with no answer (apparently they were crap (but then that did include a service))... my car nerd nebiour comes round to see if he can see anything.. and he knew the cable trick - worked like perfect after he plugged it in.

when was the last time it had the fuel filter changed?

it could be a blocked filter or it might be drawing air into the fuel system some where. either way it sounds fuel related.

  • It sounds like you are talking about the MAF which is a common failure on the diesel Rover 25's but the Petrol 200 and the Diesel 220 work differently and the MAF doesn't cause the same problems.

I'm wondering if you are running a diesel if it is your turbo that is failing, turbo's must have clean oil and if the servicing gets behind then can become damaged. However I agree with the above pop over to mg-rover.org we are a lovely bunch and will soon have you sorted!
