Getting new financial post for someone not living at my address

Not sure I have the right category for the forum, but I need some advice.

At the beginning of last week, I started getting post which looked of a financial matter for a married women. I've lived at my address for 5 years. The post for this woman is completely new. I've lived by myself for several years including the 5 years mentioned before. Today's post has worried me as the latest letter to arrive seems to be a shiny new credit card.

I'm going to return the post to sender with not at this address crossed over it. However, what else should I do? Check my credit report? Not sure where to start. Any advice appreciated.

If the card wasn't addressed to you then it won't (shouldn't) affect you one way or another. It's individuals who are assessed for credit not addresses so even if someone had applied for something at your address you wouldn't be able to see it on your credit report.

You're going to the bother of returning the post rather than just binning it so hopefully someone at the return address will freeze any account that's been opened.

Another option is to open it and call any number on it saying that you believe that someone has fraudulently applied for something at your address. It may not be fraud but as a lay-person you're not to know that and it should get attention of the people at the other end :) And for the record, I take the line that anything that comes through my door is for my attention regardless of the name on it :)

A while back I got stuff that I opened in error(!) sent to my address, one opening an account and one with a mobile phone contract (both different names). I did send them to the relevant fraud depts stating that I didn't know the person and to my knowledge thay had never lived there. I heard no more, but nothing untoward came of it.

Just send it back marked return to sender. The bank will freeze the account until the legit card holder contacts them.

That is insufficient. Both Nat West and Bank of China continually sent items relating to debtors not resident at my property despite my sending numerous items back.

Open the post and telephone the institutions concerned. Note the date, time and who you speak to as well as what it decided. Then file the documents.

There'll be a return address on the envelope -if you're worried pop the stuff in a envelope with a letter saying it's got nothing to do with you. Or if you're not owrried bin it or write "NOT AT THIS ADDRESS RETURN TO SENDER" on it and post it (no stamps needed) and it'll make its way back.

I'd hold fire for a week or so though cos you may yet get a PIN number and gawd knows what else.
